Dr. Janae Rasmussen, DO
Dr. Janae Rasmussen, DO, a distinguished graduate of ATSU-AZ medical school in 2022, is an Orthopedic Surgery Resident at Valley Consortium for Medical Education in Modesto, California. She is currently planning to pursue a fellowship in Pediatric Orthopedic Surgery or Hand and Upper Extremity Surgery.
Originally from Kailua, Hawai'i, she obtained her Bachelor of Science in Biology and also studied Political Science at Pacific University in Oregon. Prior to medical school, she worked in Seattle, Washington, as an EMT and coordinated both domestic and international occupational health screenings. She volunteered in the emergency department at the University of Washington's Harborview Medical Center, helped teach at wilderness medicine courses, and led outdoor trips for children with disabilities. At ATSU-AZ, she held numerous leadership roles including Sigma Sigma Phi, Gold Humanism Honor Society, Vice President of her Class Council, Association of Women Surgeons Chapter President for 3 years, Student National Medical Association Region 1 Secretary, National Co-Chair for the American Medical Student Association’s Health Care For All Campaign, and was a tutor for all 4 years.
She is passionate about health literacy, health policy, and how we can better improve patient outcomes by caring for the whole person. Her research interests include health literacy and improving patient education, wound care, management of orthopedic infections, nutrition and preoperative optimization of orthopedic patients, and family planning in medical training. She hopes to develop research opportunities for medical students without home orthopedic surgery programs, mentor osteopathic students and underrepresented minorities pursuing orthopedic surgery, and improve quality of life in orthopedic patients.
